The water castle features symmetrical facades, ornate stucco decorations, and detailed ceiling paintings within its architectural composition spanning three floors.
Construction of the castle occurred between 1748 and 1765 under the direction of architect Johann Matthias Kitz for the Hoerde noble family.
The castle chapel, completed in 1777, represents one of the finest examples of Rococo architecture in the Westphalia region.
The castle grounds remain accessible for exterior viewing, with parking facilities available near the entrance gate.
A devastating fire in 1935, caused by a forgotten iron, led to extensive reforms in regional fire prevention regulations.
