The castle was built around 1250 by the Counts of Orlamünde as a customs house and evolved into a fortified residence. Prominent figures such as Martin Luther and Emperor Charles V visited at different times in its history.
The chapel was visited by Martin Luther and still hosts weddings and religious services today. This space connects historical moments with the everyday use by visitors.
