St. Johannes Enthauptung is a late Romanesque to early Gothic Catholic parish church in Salzkotten. Its oldest part is the 47-metre tower, topped with a baroque cupola since 1589. The Westphalian hall church has narrow side aisles and a short transept; the interior's massive pillars, planned in Romanesque style, rise seven metres. A new sacristy was added on the south side of the choir around 1900.

The parish church was first documented in a peace treaty of 24 August 1256 between Archbishop Konrad of Cologne and Bishop Simon I of Paderborn, and it was completed in 1275. Salzkotten's faithful had previously belonged to the parish of Vielsen, whose last pastor, Joachim, became the first pastor here. In 1633 Hessian and Swedish troops took and largely destroyed the town, burned the rectory and plundered the church; the damaged choir window was walled up and only reopened in the 19th century.

The parish belonged to Vielsen until Joachim, Vielsen's last pastor, became Salzkotten's first; he brought a baptismal font from Vielsen, destroyed in the 19th century. In the left transept stands a 15th-century Pietà, also from Vielsen. A wall niche holds a figure of John with paintings from around 1500, the oldest surviving decoration, and above it a painting of Saint Christopher.

The church stands in the town centre of Salzkotten, in the Kreis Paderborn. The 47-metre tower with its baroque hood of 1589 is the oldest part of the building and the easiest landmark to orient by. The lower tower windows served as doors until 1967; the choir window, walled up after damage in 1633, was reopened in the 19th century.
