Norissteig, Via ferrata in Hirschbach, Germany
Norissteig is a via ferrata in the Hersbrucker Alb region with rock sections, narrow crevices, and ridge passages secured by steel cables. The route covers about 540 meters of elevation gain and passes through forest sections of varying difficulty.
The trail was established in 1928 by the Noris section of the German Alpine Club as a circular route connecting Fischbrunn and Hirschbach. It represents an early example of organized via ferrata construction in Germany and has been maintained for decades.
This trail is recognized locally as a classic climbing destination where people practice traditional alpine club techniques. Visitors can observe how climbing methods are integrated into a forested mountain setting.
Visitors should bring full safety equipment including helmet, harness, and carabiners, as all exposed sections require proper setup. Less experienced climbers can use bypass routes at the most difficult sections to progress without the highest technical demands.
The Mittelbergwand is a rock section roughly 40 meters high with a very narrow crevice requiring dexterity and focus to navigate through. This spot is frequently mentioned by visitors as the most demanding part of the entire route.
