King Louis Bridge, Wooden footbridge in Kempten, Germany.

The King Louis Bridge spans 403 feet across the Iller River with three sections supported by two interconnected Howe trusses made of larch wood.

Built in 1851 for the Royal Bavarian State Railways, the structure served as a railway bridge until 1905 when increased train weights required alternative routes.

The bridge received recognition as a Historic Landmark of Civil Engineering in Germany in 2012 for its calculated design methods and European engineering heritage.

Following restoration in 1986, the structure now functions as a dedicated pathway for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the 98-foot-deep river incision.

The bridge incorporates a weather protection system of inclined larch wood lamellas that maintains structural integrity while preserving views of the engineering design.
