Gignoux-Haus, Architectural heritage monument in Lechviertel, Augsburg, Germany
The Gignoux-Haus is a Baroque building in Augsburg with two wings arranged at right angles and topped by mansard roofs. The facades display ornate Rococo stucco decoration, while the main entrance is framed by Ionic pilasters.
The building was constructed between 1764 and 1765 under architect Leonhard Christian Mayer's direction. It was commissioned by Georg Christoph Gleich, who had married into the Gignoux family.
The house served as a theater space from 1956 to 2010 and hosted regular performances for Augsburg audiences. The venue was an important part of the city's cultural life during those decades.
The house is located in Augsburg's Lechviertel area at Vorderer Lech 8 and 10. It has been closed to visitors since 2010 due to structural defects and fire safety concerns.
The house merges living and working spaces within a palace-like structure, featuring a distinctive polygonal bay window. This blend of practicality and refinement reflected the status of wealthy Augsburg merchants of that era.
