Scheidegger Wasserfälle

Scheidegger Waterfalls form where the Rickenbach stream flows through a narrow gorge and drops over a series of rock steps. The water creates a cascade of descents that together produce a striking natural display within the surrounding landscape.

The site was recognized early as geologically significant and in 2004 was designated among Bavaria's 100 most beautiful geotopes by state authorities. This recognition helped protect the natural formation for future generations.

The geological nature trail presents interactive displays and educational stations that explain the formation of rocks and the principles of water power.

This place is best explored on foot, though the paths can be steep and slippery, especially after rain. It is wise to wear sturdy footwear and allow enough time to visit the various viewpoints at leisure.

At the waterfalls operates a hydraulic ram that works entirely without electricity and pumps water to a nearby playground. This historical system shows how flowing water was used for power before modern electricity existed.
