Schloss Rosenburg, Medieval castle in Riedenburg, Germany
Schloss Rosenburg is a medieval castle in Riedenburg built with residential structures in Renaissance style, featuring distinctive staircase gables and a chapel on the ground floor. The complex shows the traits of South German architecture with steep rooflines and stone facades.
The location was first mentioned in 1196 when Duke Ludwig I of Bavaria brought it under his control, and the House of Wittelsbach ruled from that time forward. Over centuries the castle developed into a residence with Renaissance features that were added later.
The chapel displays wall paintings from the 1500s that show religious and artistic styles of the era. When you walk through the space, you can see the colors and craftsmanship of these old works up close.
The site is open from Tuesday through Sunday and hosts falcon flight demonstrations at set times during the day. Wear comfortable shoes and allow enough time to explore the falcon demonstrations and the interior spaces thoroughly.
The castle now houses a specialized falconry center where visitors can watch different birds of prey perform live flight demonstrations. This center draws people who want to learn about the ancient craft of falconry and how the birds behave.
