Hannibal

Hannibal is a residential skyscraper in Dortmund's northern district standing about 50 meters tall. The building contains many apartments within a solid concrete structure typical of housing blocks from that era.

Construction took place in the 1970s as part of Dortmund's effort to address housing shortages at that time. Between 1994 and 1999, major renovations updated the building's systems and living spaces.

The building shows how Dortmund aimed to create new housing for its residents in the 1970s. The simple concrete design reflects the spirit of that era, when practical construction took priority over decoration.

The building sits in the Nordstadt district and is easily reached by public transport. Visitors should keep in mind this is a residential building where access to certain areas may be limited.

In 2017, authorities evacuated more than 700 residents within just a few hours. Fire safety concerns prompted thorough inspections of the entire building.
