St. Mang's Abbey, Benedictine monastery in Füssen, Germany
The abbey complex features a grand Baroque church with marble decorations, an oval library rotunda, and a ceremonial hall overlooking a spacious courtyard.
Founded in 801, St. Mang's Abbey underwent extensive renovation between 1701 and 1726 under architect Johann Jakob Herkomer, who incorporated Venetian architectural elements.
The monastery holds the burial site of Saint Magnus of Füssen, attracting pilgrims who visit the dedicated chapel beneath the organ loft.
The former monastery now functions as both the Catholic Parish Church of St. Mang and the Town Museum, offering visitors access to religious and historical exhibits.
The oval library connects to the refectory through an architectural feature called an oculus, demonstrating innovative design solutions for the hillside location.
