St. Nikolaus, Romanesque parish church in Bad Reichenhall, Germany.

St. Nikolaus is a Romanesque parish church in Bad Reichenhall with a striking main entrance framed by columns and decorated with a mosaic of the apocalyptic lamb above it. The interior contains a large organ with multiple registers and preserves architectural details from different construction periods.

The original church was built in the 12th century and suffered damage from city fires in the following centuries. Major reconstruction and expansion work took place in the middle of the 1800s, giving it the form we see today.

The interior walls display frescoes painted by Moritz von Schwind, showing saints and religious scenes throughout the space. These artworks give the altar area and the whole church a distinctive artistic character.

The church welcomes visitors during prayer times and hosts various religious and musical events throughout the year. It is wise to check local information about visiting hours beforehand, as access may vary depending on services or special occasions.

The eastern apse preserves its original Romanesque structure with an ornate carved frieze from the 12th century building phase. This oldest part of the building shows what the church looked like before later expansions changed its overall form.
