Grümpental Bridge, Railway bridge in Frankenblick, Germany
Grümpental Bridge is a railway bridge spanning across a valley in Frankenblick using a prestressed concrete arch design. The structure carries high-speed trains across the terrain at considerable height above the ground.
The bridge was completed in 2011 and improved rail connections between Nuremberg and Erfurt. The structure enabled faster operations along one of Germany's major railway routes.
The bridge represents German engineering precision through its integration into the Thuringian landscape while maintaining the highest standards of railway construction.
The bridge can be viewed from several vantage points in the valley below, with the best views from directly underneath the arch. Local roads in the Frankenblick area provide access, and hiking trails nearby allow for exploring the surrounding countryside.
The 270-meter arch span ranks among Europe's longest continuous arch spans for a railway bridge. This exceptional span length was chosen to cross the deep valley with a single large arch rather than constructing multiple support pillars.
