Circus Gammelsdorf

Circus Gammelsdorf was a performance venue housed in a converted cinema building at Hauptstrasse 12 that hosted theatrical productions and musical performances. The space could accommodate both classic theatre works and cabaret or music events throughout its operating years.

The venue originated in the mid-1970s from a converted village cinema and developed into a recognized performance space. It operated until 1994, when it closed after serving as a regular showcase for various artistic genres.

The venue presented a mix of cabaret shows, theatrical performances, and concerts, drawing audiences from Germany and neighboring countries.

The venue functioned as a daytime cafe and evening performance space with regular programming throughout the week. Today the building is no longer in operation and can only be viewed from outside as a historical landmark.

Kurt Cobain and Nirvana performed here in 1989 before the band achieved worldwide fame. This performance makes this small Bavarian venue an overlooked chapter in music history.
