The Frankfurt city and regional library occupies two listed buildings in the centre of Frankfurt (Oder). Haus 1 at Bischofstraße 17, a former carpet house, holds fiction, non-fiction, regional literature, newspapers, sheet music and film media on the ground floor and two upper floors, with a special collection on Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. Haus 2, a former prison until 1969, houses the children's and youth library on the third to fifth floors.

The library was founded in 1906 as an information center for the Frankfurt (Oder) community. Over the decades, it evolved to meet changing needs and expanded its role in local education and knowledge sharing.

The library's special collections include around 580 items on Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, who was born in Frankfurt (Oder) in 1714, and a stored archive of GDR children's literature. It also keeps about 380 rare Eterna records with sheet music and non-fiction. The regional literature section is continually expanded and includes materials not sold in bookshops, such as local calendars and event programmes.

The library occupies two buildings in the centre of Frankfurt (Oder): Haus 1 at Bischofstraße 17, the historic former carpet house, and Haus 2, a former prison until 1969, renovated in 2001. Haus 1 has a lift, a ramp and an accessible toilet; media there sit on the ground floor and first two floors, with administration on the third.

Haus 1, the main building at Bischofstraße 17, began as a carpet shop before the library moved in in 1932; Haus 2, which houses the children's and youth library, served as a prison until 1969 and was renovated in 2001. Haus 1 also keeps a special collection of about 580 items on Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, who was born in Frankfurt (Oder) in 1714.
