Gymnasium St. Augustin, Historical school building in Grimma, Germany.

Gymnasium St. Augustin is an educational institution in Grimma with two Neo-renaissance buildings completed in 1891, located near the Mulde River. The main building and Seume-Haus contain classrooms and residential facilities for students in grades 5 through 12.

Duke Moritz of Saxony founded this school in 1550 as one of the first princely educational institutions in Germany, located in a former Augustinian monastery. The school developed into a significant educational tradition that has continued across centuries.

The school is named after Saint Augustine and carries the motto 'Pietati - Virtuti - Doctrinae', which continues to define its identity today. The name reflects the monastic origins of the site and its transformation into a place of learning.

The campus sits directly along the Mulde River and is easily walkable to reach; the older buildings clearly display their Neo-renaissance architecture from the outside. Be aware this is an active school building, so respect for daily educational operations is needed during your visit.

The school operates one of the few active boarding programs for students in Saxony, continuing an old tradition that remains uncommon for German secondary schools. This residential model creates a distinctive community on campus.
