Glückaufturm, Observation tower in Oelsnitz, Germany.
Glückaufturm is an observation tower in Oelsnitz that rises 36 meters and offers nine viewing platforms at different heights. The platforms connect through winding staircases totaling 138 steps.
The tower opened to the public in November 2000 following designs created by the Leipzig architecture firm Bernd Sikora. Stahlbau Weischlitz handled the construction and assembly of the structure.
The tower structure mirrors traditional mining headframes, connecting the modern structure to the regional mining heritage of Erzgebirge.
The climb up the stairs requires moderate effort, so visitors should wear comfortable shoes for the ascent. Orientation panels at the top help identify landmarks visible across the surrounding landscape.
The structure earned the BDA Prize Sachsen in 2001 and weighs a total of 81.7 tons. Its foundation required approximately 62.3 cubic meters of concrete to anchor the tower securely.
