Gäubodenmuseum Straubing, Regional museum in Straubing, Germany.
The Gäubodenmuseum is a regional museum in a reconstructed patrician house on Fraunhoferstraße in Straubing that displays finds and artwork spanning 7000 years. The collection is organized into multiple departments with objects ranging from prehistoric times to the modern era.
The museum was founded in 1845 to display weapons from the city armory and grew significantly after 1898 when the Historical Association acquired new pieces through public donations. This expansion made it one of the most important collections in the region.
The museum displays objects that show how people in this region lived across thousands of years, from Celtic tools to baroque artwork. The rooms tell stories through their collections of the different cultures that settled here and left their marks.
The building is located in downtown Straubing and is easily accessible on foot, though wheelchair access is limited in some areas. Audio guides are available on-site to help visitors understand the collections.
The museum houses the largest collection of Roman parade armor found in Germany, with face mask helmets and armor pieces for horses. These rare pieces date from the 3rd century and showcase the craftsmanship of the Roman period.
