Villa Leonhart, Villa heritage site in Königswinter, Germany.

Villa Leonhart is a two-storey solid masonry villa with a mansard roof and five axes, built in 1893 and remodelled in 1938 in the Bauhaus style by architect Franz Josef Krings. A three-storey tower faces the Hauptstraße, while cubic extensions on the north side house the entrance and a garage. The building has 610 m² of usable floor space.

Villa Leonhart was built in 1893 as a country house with a classicist belvedere for the family of Baron von Leonhart-Kurtzrock, who had settled in Königswinter in the mid-19th century. After Baroness Sophie von Leonhart-Kurtzrock died in 1935 with no heir, the property passed to the Catholic Church, which sold it in 1936 to the Deutsche Arbeitsfront. The architect Franz Josef Krings gave it its present Bauhaus-influenced form in a 1938 conversion.

The villa's name recalls the Leonhart-Kurtzrock family, who built it in 1893 and kept it until 1935, when Baroness Sophie von Leonhart-Kurtzrock died without heirs. The Catholic Church inherited the estate and sold it in 1936 to the Deutsche Arbeitsfront. Visitors can still see the 1938 window grilles: their swastikas were converted into square patterns by metal bars on 27 January 1988 after a city council decision.

The villa sits in Königswinter and is reachable by public transportation or car, as the town connects well to the Cologne and Bonn regions. Visitors should note that it is a protected monument, so access may be limited.

The window grilles once carried swastika ornaments from the 1938 conversion into a DAF guesthouse. After a city council decision in May 1987, metal bars were added on 27 January 1988 to turn them into a square pattern, still visible today.
