Schloss Unterbaar

Schloss Unterbaar stands as a three-story water castle with four polygonal bay windows at each corner of the building.

Michael Riederer constructed the castle on a small island during the 16th century, with major renovations carried out by the Schenk von Castell brothers in the 18th century.

The castle served multiple purposes throughout its existence, including as a retirement home for displaced persons from eastern territories after 1945.

A bridge crossing the moat leads to the main entrance, which features a segmental arched canopy and the Himmelsbach family coat of arms.

The castle grounds include one of Germany's oldest documented private breweries, established in 1608 and still operational today.
