Hardheimer Schloss

Hardheimer Schloss is a three-story castle in the center of Hardheim with two corner towers topped by baroque domes. The building stands near the Neckar-Odenwald Nature Park and shapes the town's skyline with its distinctive form.

The castle was built in 1561 by Junker Wolf von Hardheim and Margareta von Berlichingen and evolved from a moated fortress first recorded in 1324. The shift from medieval fortification to Renaissance castle shows how the structure changed across centuries.

The building displays Renaissance design elements and shelters historical grave markers of the Lords of Hartheim beneath its base since 1615. These memorials tell the story of families who inhabited and shaped the structure across generations.

The castle underwent major renovations between 1985 and 1988 and now serves as the town hall of Hardheim. Visitors should know that the building continues to function as an administrative office and access may be limited to specific times or require permission.

A natural water source feeds parts of the former moat through a fountain into a stream that flows into a small pond in the surrounding garden. This historic water system connects the castle's past with its present garden landscape.
