Welfenkaserne

Welfenkaserne is a military complex in Landsberg am Lech comprising multiple buildings and administrative areas for the German armed forces. The grounds include an underground facility that serves operational and maintenance functions for the armed services.

The complex was built in 1944 and included an underground aircraft factory constructed by concentration camp prisoners under the code name Weingut II. This subterranean facility was central to weapons production efforts during the war.

Today military personnel and civilian employees work on the grounds while a memorial honors those who died during its construction. The site visibly carries the marks of this difficult past.

The site functions today as an active military facility with limited public access to most areas. Visitors should inquire beforehand about accessible sections and any required permissions.

The underground tunnels extend approximately 226 meters and were originally designed for aircraft production. Today these spaces serve entirely different purposes yet still show traces of their original industrial scale and construction.
