Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche, Catholic parish church in Görlitz, Germany.
The Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche is a parish church featuring Romanesque Revival architecture with rounded arches throughout its structure. The bell tower rises 37 meters (121 feet) high, and the nave extends 28 meters (92 feet) in length.
Construction took place between 1850 and 1853, making it the first Catholic church built in Görlitz following the Protestant Reformation era. This marked the return of Catholic worship to the city after centuries.
The church houses a chapel with a replica of the Black Madonna of Czestochowa, donated by members of the Polish Catholic community. This image reflects the close ties between the parish and Polish residents in the area.
The church is located at Struvestraße 19 and is easily accessible on foot from the city center. Plan your visit during regular opening hours and check beforehand if any services or events are scheduled.
The church departs from standard orientation patterns, with its tower on the north side rather than the west. The chancel faces south, which is an unconventional layout for a Romanesque building.
