Bamberg transmitter, Communication tower in Kälberberg, Germany.
The Bamberg transmitter is a television tower made of concrete that stands on Wachknock peak at an elevation of around 550 meters and rises about 127 meters into the air. The structure was built to distribute radio and television signals across a large area in Upper Franconia.
The tower was constructed in 1973 and transmitted analog television signals to regional households for many years. In 2008, it switched to digital television using DVB-T technology and stopped sending analog broadcasts.
The tower distributes numerous radio and television programs throughout Upper Franconia, connecting regional communities with national and local media content.
The facility is visible from outside and offers visitors a vantage point over the landscape surrounding Bamberg. The location is best reached during daylight hours and provides an open view of the Franconian hills.
Deutsche Funkturm operates this transmitter as part of a network of coordinated transmitters in the region. This arrangement enables stable and widespread coverage of radio signals across large areas.
