Hildenburg, Castle ruin and archaeological site in Hausen, Germany.
The Hildenburg remains stand on a conical mountain in the Rhön Mountains, surrounded by beech forest and accessible via a stone-covered path.
The castle structure dates back to the 8th or 9th century and belonged to noble families until peasants destroyed it during an uprising in 1525.
The castle takes its name from a noblewoman who made several donations to the Abbey of Fulda around the year 824.
The site allows visitors to examine medieval defensive architecture, including parts of the keep and foundation walls that remain standing today.
According to local tales, the ruins contain hidden treasures, leading generations of villagers to search the grounds for concealed wealth.
