Hohenheim Gardens, Botanical garden and park in Stuttgart, Germany.
Hohenheim Gardens is a botanical garden and park located on the University of Hohenheim campus with several distinct sections. The site includes a main botanical garden, an exotic plant section, a landscape garden, and greenhouses housing tropical plants, carnivorous species, and specialized collections.
The site was established between 1772 and 1793 when Duke Carl Eugen transformed an estate into a modern garden and created the exotic plant section. This period established the basic layout that remains visible today.
The name reflects Duke Carl Eugen's vision, who built this place to showcase exotic plants from around the world. Visitors today can see how the layout and plant groupings still reflect that historical passion for botanical discovery.
The grounds are easily accessible on foot with pathways connecting the different sections. Plan to spend several hours if you want to see both the outdoor gardens and the greenhouses.
The grounds contain around 180 tree species recognized by the German Dendrological Society as remarkable specimens. Some of these trees are over 200 years old, making them among the oldest living things at the site.
