Untere Burg, Medieval castle ruin in Rheinbreitbach, Germany
The remaining foundations of Untere Burg rise about one meter high, situated next to Saint Maria Magdalena Church in central Rheinbreitbach.
Records indicate the castle served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Breitbach until 1473, when they relocated to Bürresheim Castle near Mayen.
The castle ruins stand within a park called Renesse-Platz, named after Count Clemens Wenzeslaus von Renesse who acquired the property in 1797.
Located at Westerwaldstraße in Rheinbreitbach, the site allows visitors to examine the foundation walls and restored sections of the medieval moat.
The structure retained its original four-story southern wing with a cross-ribbed vault until the 1960s, when significant deterioration led to its demolition.
