St.-Mang-Brunnen, Architectural heritage water well in central Kempten, Germany.
The St.-Mang-Brunnen is a water fountain with four columns supporting a canopy in central Kempten. Bronze figures of riders on various animals surround the basin, each representing different creatures.
The fountain was designed in 1905 by sculptor Georg Wrba after winning a competition. Wrba tested the design using wooden models to find the best location for the installation.
The fountain displays Saint Magnus, the patron of the region, shown as a young man holding a crucifix. This figure represents the religious bond that local people have with their home and heritage.
The fountain sits near St. Mang Church tower and provides plenty of space for markets and gatherings. Its central location makes it easy to reach and offers clear views of all the details.
The four riders sit on different creatures whose feet take varied forms - human feet, bird claws, fins, and hooves. These details show Wrba's skill in combining different natural beings into one composition.
