Unterschleißheimer See, Bathing lake in Unterschleißheim, Germany

Unterschleißheimer See is a 7.9-hectare bathing lake in the Riedmoos district of Unterschleißheim, about 460 m long and 150 m wide, with depths of 9 to 14 m. It was excavated from 1979 as gravel was taken for the Munich–Deggendorf motorway and opened to the public in 1983. A 47,000 m² lawn with a gently sloping sandy beach, beach volleyball court, sand playground and a restaurant with beer garden lines the shore.

The lake formed between 1979 and 1980 as a byproduct of gravel extraction during construction of the A92 motorway. This former extraction site transformed into a recreational destination for the region.

The lake serves as a central gathering point where locals and visitors swim, play beach volleyball, and dine at waterside restaurants throughout the year. These everyday activities shape how people experience and value this place in their daily routines.

The lake provides multiple parking areas near the shore that can accommodate vehicles of all sizes. Peak visiting times occur during warm months, so arriving early helps secure parking and enjoy uncrowded bathing areas.

Around a third of the lake is set aside as a wetland biotope, with quiet zones kept for waterbirds during the breeding season. The lake is managed by the Fischereiverein Unterschleißheim e.V., a local angling club, so anglers and swimmers share the water.
