St. Stephanus, Brick church building in Bork, Germany.
St. Stephanus is a brick church building in Bork with a vaulted interior and a prominent west tower that gained a helm in 1776 and later received side expansions. The structure shows a straightforward interior with clean lines and functional spaces for worship.
The parish emerged between 1022 and 1032 from a separation of another congregation in Werne and remained under Cappenberg Abbey until 1803. After the tower collapsed in 1716, the building was completely reconstructed between 1718 and 1724.
The stained glass windows inside show scenes from Saint Stephen's life in colored panes made around 1900, positioned behind the altar. These images shape how the interior space feels and tell a religious story for visitors.
The building is reachable on foot from Bork town center and sits near residential areas. Inside, visitors can walk around freely and explore the spaces, though routine maintenance happens from time to time.
The west tower rests on medieval foundations buried beneath the current structures, telling of the site's long continuity. This hidden detail shows how the community remained in this spot across the centuries.
