Schloss Schambach

Schloss Schambach is a moated castle between Plattling and Straubing featuring two hexagonal towers on the west side and a spiral staircase tower at the main entrance. A water moat surrounds the structure for protection.

The castle originated around 1200 as a fortified structure surrounded by water defenses. The Trenbach family transformed it into a two-wing structure around 1550, a form it retained until the Thirty Years' War.

The castle displays a blend of Gothic and early Renaissance elements visible in its later modifications. The arcades and towers reflect different construction phases across the centuries.

The property is located in a rural area of Bavaria and is easily accessible via roads between two nearby towns. The surroundings offer space for parking and exploring the grounds.

The foundations rest on oak posts driven deep into the swampy ground to stabilize the structure. This ancient construction technique allowed the building to stand on marshy terrain.
