Ohre-Drömling, Nature reserve in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

Ohre-Drömling is a protected area with moors, wet meadows, and a dense network of waterways stretching across several municipalities. The landscape consists mainly of open spaces crossed by drainage channels and small lakes that hold water.

The region was originally swampland that was transformed in the 18th century through drainage projects under Prussian direction. These works made the land usable and shaped how it looks today.

The name comes from the Ohre River and the Drömling, a traditional moorland with deep roots in local ways of life. Visitors can walk the paths and find in these open landscapes a place of quietude.

The area is divided into zones, with some parts open and others requiring permits for entry. It is wise to check before visiting which paths and areas are accessible.

The area is home to rare species like the pillwort fern and the European tree frog that are specialized for wet conditions. These creatures are hard to spot, but their presence shows how important the water habitats are for many specialized species.
