Our women, Gothic church in Memmingen, Germany.
Our Women is a Gothic church in Memmingen with twin towers that rise above red brick walls and large stained glass windows framed by pointed arches. The interior layout and spatial divisions accommodate shared use by two congregations, with side aisles and distinct zones serving different functions.
The original Romanesque church was fundamentally transformed in 1435 into its present Gothic form, reflecting the architectural style preferred at that time. This major reconstruction marked a turning point in the building's appearance and continues to define how it looks today.
The building functions as a simultaneum, where Protestant and Catholic congregations share the same space for worship services. This shared use shapes how people experience the interior and reflects a long tradition of religious coexistence.
The main entrance is located at Martin-Luther-Platz and is easy to access, with guided tours offered on weekdays from Monday through Saturday. It is wise to check ahead whether services are taking place, as these can affect your visit experience.
The organ was rebuilt in 1998 but incorporates pipes from 1766 that were carefully preserved and integrated into the new instrument. This combination of historical craftsmanship with modern construction creates distinctive tonal qualities when played.
