Lichtenwalde Castle

Lichtenwalde Castle is a baroque château in Niederwiesa with three stories, symmetrical windows, and a mansard roof decorated with ornamental dormers and stone sculptures. The building houses several specialized museums containing collections of timepieces and decorative arts from different periods.

The castle came into being in the early 18th century when a medieval fortress was replaced with the present baroque structure under Count Otto Wilhelm von Lichtenwalde. This transformation made the place a modern noble residence reflecting the architectural trends of its time.

The castle reveals its past as a noble residence through rooms like the Red Salon, showing how aristocratic families lived here. The displayed timepieces and precious objects reflect the interests and wealth of former inhabitants.
