Liebfrauenkirche, Catholic church in Bessungen, Darmstadt, Germany.
Liebfrauenkirche is a three-nave basilica in Bessungen built from light trachyte and limestone stone with a separate bell tower featuring metal reliefs. The interior accommodates about 300 people and houses an altar made from Anröchter dolomite containing relics of Saint Peter Canisius.
Construction of this church began in 1924 with an undercroft and was expanded in 1936 following architect Jan Hubert Pinand's designs. This expansion established the building's present form.
The church serves as a place for worship and quiet prayer, especially during the liturgical seasons throughout the year. Regular gatherings and annual celebrations shape the spiritual life of the local community here.
Visitors should note that the interior space is relatively small and is best explored during quieter times. The architecture and details are easy to see from inside without any special preparation.
The bells in the tower were cast in 2001 and are tuned to sound the opening notes of the Gregorian chant Salve Regina. This musical detail makes the church a special place for those who appreciate sound.
