Kloster Hof, Medieval monastery complex in Hof, Germany
The Kloster Hof consists of a Franciscan monastery and Clarissan convent located on the banks of the Saale River in Bavaria, near the Czech border.
The monastery received permission to sell indulgences for financial support through a document from Archbishop Erich of Magdeburg dated May 13, 1292.
The monastery church featured one of the first organs in Franconia and contained a high Gothic choir, demonstrating the advanced architectural styles of medieval Germany.
Parts of the original complex now function as administrative offices for social work and include a cafe open to visitors.
The Hussite invasion of 1430 forced monks to flee with their possessions, leading to the complete destruction of the monastery before its reconstruction.
