The Kelchsteine formation consists of sandstone shaped into a mushroom structure, reaching 17 meters in height within the Zittau Mountains region.
The climbing development of this formation started in 1911, with Siegfried Schreiber completing the first sports climb without aids in 1946.
The formation represents a central element in the local climbing community, offering five established routes that test the skills of experienced mountaineers.

The natural erosion processes have created distinctive patterns in the sandstone layers, forming a structure with varying degrees of hardness throughout.
