Kloster Seligenporten

Kloster Seligenporten is a Cistercian monastery in Pyrbaum featuring sturdy stone walls, tall windows, and architectural structures from different periods. The complex consists of several buildings arranged around a central courtyard, with the church, living quarters, and service buildings forming the historical ensemble.

The monastery was founded in 1242 and developed into a powerful institution with significant land holdings during the Middle Ages. Over the following centuries, its influence grew, until it declined in importance during the Reformation era.

The monastery served as a spiritual hub for surrounding communities, where people gathered for religious services and sought guidance from the monks. Local families maintained strong ties to the religious life practiced within its walls.

The monastery houses some of Germany's oldest preserved wooden stalls dating from the 13th century. These valuable pieces show the craftsmanship and construction methods that medieval inhabitants used in daily life.
