St.Mary's church Bernau, Brick Gothic church in Bernau bei Berlin, Germany

St. Mary's Church is a four-nave hall structure with an ambulatory, featuring various vault designs including a unified star network pattern in the central nave. Red brick forms the exterior, giving the building its characteristic Gothic appearance.

Construction began in the 14th century and extended across two centuries, with an inscription above the pulpit marking completion in 1519. This lengthy building period shaped the city's architectural development.

The interior colors reflect the original appearance from 1519, preserving medieval decorative elements that visitors can see today. This restoration reveals how the Protestant church looked during the Reformation period.

The interior invites calm exploration, as the building's layout is straightforward and the four-nave design remains easy to follow. Visitors should allow time to observe the vault patterns and the brick detailing throughout.

The current tower was designed by architect Julius Manger in 1846 and replaced the original twin-tower structure. This replacement is a visible reminder of how the building transformed during the 19th century.
