Kloster St. Alban

Kloster St. Alban is a Benedictine convent by Ammersee lake with residential buildings, a chapel, and shared living spaces. The site also has a library holding religious texts and areas for quiet work and contemplation.

The monastery was founded in 1923 by Baroness Barbara von Freyberg after her work at a military hospital. Its creation grew from a desire to help children in need and provide them with safe care.

The Benedictine nuns shape daily life through their prayer schedules, which set the rhythm of the place. Visitors sense this inner order when walking through the monastery spaces and listening to their chants.

The monastery opens to visitors for religious services, spiritual retreats, and guided tours of the grounds. It helps to check opening hours and events in advance to plan your visit properly.

Since its founding, the monastery has run a children's home and continues to care for boys and girls needing help. This work with children was central to the place from the very beginning.
