Wienhausen Abbey, Lutheran religious community near Celle, Germany.

The red brick Gothic structures of Wienhausen Abbey include a two-story cloister, an 11th-century Romanesque church, and a Gothic western extension.

Founded in 1230 by Agnes von Landsberg, the abbey transformed from a Catholic Cistercian nunnery to a Lutheran establishment in 1531 under Duke Ernest of Brunswick-Lüneburg.

The nuns' chapel features extensive biblical imagery on its walls and ceiling, representing medieval Christian art traditions from the 14th century.

The abbey opens its doors annually after Pentecost for public viewings of its Gothic tapestries collection from the 14th and 15th centuries.

During renovations in 1953, workers discovered the oldest known pair of rivet spectacles, dating back to the 14th or 15th century.
