Burg Löffelstelz, Medieval castle ruin in Mühlacker, Germany
Burg Löffelstelz is a medieval castle ruin in Mühlacker perched on a rock face overlooking the Enz River valley. The surviving remains include sections of the curtain wall, the entrance gate complex, and a defensive ditch.
The castle was established around 1180 and developed further by 1220 under the lords of Dürrmenz. It came under the control of Maulbronn Monastery in 1482.
The structure represents a shield wall castle design without a keep, reflecting regional military architecture from the late 12th century.
The ruins are accessible by hiking trails from the valley below and offer wide views across the Enz landscape from above. Wear sturdy footwear for the climb, as the path to the rock outcrop is steep and uneven in places.
Archaeological digs from 2004 to 2007 uncovered previously hidden cellar rooms beneath the fortress. These underground chambers reveal details about how people actually used the castle in medieval times.
