The König-Friedrich-August-Kaserne stands at 44 Chemnitzer Street, featuring traditional early 20th-century German military architecture with robust stone walls and symmetrical design.
Built between 1906 and 1908, the building housed the 16th Infantry Regiment No. 182 of the Saxon Army and served as an army training school until 1945.
The structure represents the transformation of military facilities into educational spaces, as it became student housing for the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology in 1952.
Following renovations from 2009 to 2011, the building now offers 166 rooms with 320 beds, alongside common areas, offices, and sports facilities.
The building maintains its original military architectural elements while functioning as modern student accommodation next to the university sports center.
