Lindenstumpf, Mountain summit in Schondra, Germany

Lindenstumpf is a mountain summit located in the Bad Kissingen district within Bavaria's natural park Bayerische Rhön. The peak stands in an area shaped by distinctive geological features that hikers can explore on established trails.

The mountain underwent major changes starting in 1968 through intensive basalt mining operations that transformed its original cone shape into a crater-like depression. These extraction projects removed significant quantities of rock material and continue to define the peak's appearance today.

The mountain area received recognition as one of Bavaria's finest geological sites in October 2002, highlighting the region's natural heritage importance.

Visitors can explore the area on the Dreistelz-Lindenstumpf circular route starting from Mitgenfeld, which features educational panels explaining local geology. The trail is well-marked, allowing hikers to discover the geological features at their own pace.

Geologists debate the mountain's formation, disagreeing about the processes that shaped its current structure and composition. These scientific discussions make the summit an interesting place for visitors curious about how mountains and geological features develop.
