Lohmühlenbrücke, Arch road bridge in Neukölln, Germany
The Lohmühlenbrücke is a single-arch concrete bridge that spans the Neukölln Canal, connecting the Maybachufer area near Weichselstrasse with Lohmühlenstrasse in the Treptow district. The structure carries both vehicle and pedestrian traffic across the waterway.
The bridge was built in 1920 and 1921 as a concrete arch structure. It replaced earlier bark mills from the 18th century that once processed tree bark into powder at this location.
The bridge displays the Neukölln coat of arms on both sides, making it a visual landmark for the district. These symbols help residents and visitors identify the neighborhood's identity through its infrastructure.
The bridge provides easy crossing for both pedestrians and vehicles over the canal. Visitors can view the waterway and its surroundings from the bridge's vantage points on either side.
The filmmaker Wim Wenders shot key scenes from his film 'Wings of Desire' on this bridge in 1987. These film scenes have given it a special place in Berlin's cinema history.
