Maria-Magdalenen-Kirche, Gothic church in Eberswalde, Germany

Maria-Magdalenen-Kirche is a three-aisled brick basilica in Eberswalde without a transept, featuring tall pointed windows that flood the choir with light. The structure displays characteristic Gothic architecture with its vertical lines and soaring forms.

Construction of the Gothic brick church began in 1333, replacing an earlier structure that stood near the margrave's castle between 1241 and 1251. The new building was erected during a period when Eberswalde was expanding and modernizing its religious facilities.

The church displays terracotta sculptures at its portals featuring biblical scenes, animal figures, and star symbols from the medieval period that remain visible today. These ornaments show how the local community expressed its religious beliefs through decorative elements.

The church is located at Kirchstraße 6 and welcomes visitors during regular opening hours. The building provides wheelchair access throughout its interior spaces.

Inside, the church houses a bronze baptismal font from the 14th century featuring fine metalwork details. A carved wooden altar from 1606 complements these valuable pieces and showcases artistic craftsmanship across different periods.
