The first documentation of a chapel at this location dates to 1372, with the structure gaining recognition as a pilgrimage church by 1603.
The church maintains two organs: a Kemper organ in the old section and an Ott organ from 1960 in the new section for liturgical services.
The pilgrimage path connecting Alzenau to Kälberau includes seven stations dedicated to the Sorrows of Mary, offering a structured route for visitors.
The gothic-style nave extends approximately 10 meters with a flat roof, while the elevated choir section maintains its original ribbed vaulting.
