Neue Residenz, Episcopal residence in Passau, Germany.
The Neue Residenz features two portal porches, a roof balustrade with decorative figures, and presents a substantial Viennese late Baroque facade along Residenzplatz.
Built between 1712 and 1730, the residence became a ceremonial venue when Emperor Leopold I celebrated his marriage to Eleonora in the Great Court Hall in 1676.
The ceiling fresco displays the gods of Olympus protecting Passau while the staircase exhibits intricate Rococo stucco work with floral motifs and rocailles.
The residence houses the Bishop's Ordinariate, and visitors can access the museum section through the cathedral entrance at Residenzplatz 8.
Lead lantern putti sculptures by Joseph Bergler the Elder line the bannisters, becoming more elaborate with each ascending landing of the staircase.
