Neues Schloss

Neues Schloss is a neoclassical residence featuring three wings with a central section that projects outward, and arcaded openings at ground level. The facade displays rusticated stonework that gives the building a solid, formal appearance.

The building was designed by architect Leo von Klenze between 1819 and 1822 as a new residence for the local nobility. It replaced an earlier fortress and represented the family's transition to modern living during the 19th century.

The main hall displays painted decorative plasterwork and wall frescoes that reveal the artistic care invested in the interior. These ornamental elements reflect the importance of the residence to its residents.

The building sits close to the Altmühl River and can be easily spotted from Pappenheim's town center. Since it now houses offices and residences, visitors can view the exterior and grounds, though access to the interior is limited.

The property includes an English landscape garden that extends down to the banks of the Altmühl River. This expansive green space offers a relaxed contrast to the formal design of the residence.
