Märzenbecherwiese, Nature reserve between Stolpen and Hohnstein, Germany.
Märzenbecherwiese is a protected natural area between Stolpen and Hohnstein in the Polenz Valley. Walking trails cross through meadows that in spring are carpeted with white flowering plants.
The meadows of the Polenz Valley have been mowed regularly since around 1500, preserving the flowering display to this day. In 1928 the Saxon Homeland Protection Association acquired parts of the area to protect it permanently.
The place takes its name from the spring flowers that bloom here between March and April, turning the valley white. This natural cycle has drawn walkers and nature lovers to the area for generations.
The best time to visit is March through April when the flowers are in full bloom. The walking paths are easy to follow and connect the surrounding communities.
One of Saxony's largest wild populations of a rare spring-flowering plant grows here. The blooms are so delicate and numerous that they blanket the entire valley like snow.
