Lindau Lighthouse, Lighthouse in Lindau, Germany
The Lindau Lighthouse is a 33-meter-tall structure standing at the entrance of Lindau harbor on Lake Constance and marks the harbor entrance. The building features distinctive white and red coloring and includes a clock on its facade to serve both navigation and timekeeping purposes.
Construction of the lighthouse began in 1853 and finished in 1856, replacing an earlier light signal system that had operated in the Mangturm tower since 1230. The new building replaced the outdated facility and modernized navigation on the lake.
The lighthouse serves as a recognizable harbor landmark that both locals and visitors use to orient themselves around the waterfront. Its white and red coloring makes it a striking feature of the harbor landscape.
The lighthouse sits directly at the harbor and is easy to reach and see from anywhere in the old town. The area around the harbor is very accessible and offers a good view of harbor activities and the waterfront.
The lighthouse sits beside the Bavarian Lion statue, and together these two structures form the famous landmark at the harbor entrance. The location is one of the southernmost lighthouses in Germany and the only lighthouse located within Bavaria.
